Reflection Blog Post

Over the course of the semester I learned a lot while I was taking this class through the semester assignments and materials. During the semester, my favorite project was when we were working with Photoshop because I thought that it was the most interesting to use and was something that I knew I was going to use the skills I had learned to do more projects in the future. The skills that I learned in the course that I believe I will use in the future are being able to use these different Adobe programs is something that is very useful and can come in really handy if you have that ability when applying for jobs. I think I can use the things I learned in this class like how to tell stories through different audio and video projects and how to edit things as a resource for something eventually in my career. The career path I see in my future is working for some sort of athletics team or being an agent and I think my ability to tell a story will be beneficial when helping to shape young athletes careers. I think the Audio Story Project and Video Story Project are going to be the most influential when it comes down for my chosen career path. There are no skills or anything else that I wish I would have learned in this course that I did not end up learning. I found some resources other than class material that were useful and that was getting feedback from my peers and looking at other blogs that were similar to mine so that I could see the different styles and different ideas that people had so that I am able to really stand out in my own. This class was very interesting and even though it could be a lot of work I’m glad I took it because I think there are a lot of valuable skills that I learned throughout the course of the semester.

Final Video Story

For this project I decided to create a video to kind of document the day in my life and the things that I do as an equipment manager for the WSU volleyball team. This project relates to my topic because my whole project is centered around something that is really important in my life and takes up most of my time. The design influences that really inspired me are Day in the Life videos that are common on Youtube that influencers typically make. T research and get some insight I watched some day in the life videos to get ideas of what I should do. The significance of the elements in the design is to show people what life is like when you work in athletics and give some insight into the behind the scenes stuff that people do not normally get to see. My design process from beginning to end was to come up with the idea and work out what I was actually able to show because there are things that I am not supposed to show for certain reasons, and then from there film the footage and decide what I should use and from there create and edit the video. I decided to do a voiceover for most of the video so you could clearly hear what I am doing while it is playing in the background. I collected the elements for this project using my phone to record the videos. My process for constructing the video using Adobe software was to put all the videos in the project and from there decide what would work best for the type of video that I was trying to construct. The tools and techniques that I used were bringing video in only and then for some bringing in the audio only and cutting out unnecessary things to make the sound flow better. I faced a lot of technical challenges because working in Adobe Premier is not my favorite and I kept losing things and things would delete that I didn’t want to so that was just something that I had to work through. After getting the feedback for my project I decided to make some changes to make it better, for this video I tried to recenter my video for me setting up the net to make it more center so you could see what I was doing. I was going to redo my introduction for the video but ended up losing voice due to getting sick and wasn’t able to redo the introduction like I wanted to do. I learned a lot from using Adobe even though it wasn’t my favorite program to use.

0:30-1:00 Video showing me walking to class and walking into the gym to grab the keys to start setting up –> voiceover to explain what I am doing such as saying I’m grabbing the keys to start setting up

1:00-1:30 Showing me setting up and doing things during practice such as shagging balls and targeting and cleaning up –> voiceover to explain that I am setting up nets and the things that I am going over

1:30-2:00 me at the end of day just showing and explaining how it was –> a thank you for taking a look into the day of my life and the things that I do

Final Audio Story

For this project I decided to create an interview style type of audio. I wanted to interview someone on the team for their perspective with what I am doing everyday in the eyes on the team. The research I did was watching a lot of interviews on ESPN to see some audio to really see what interviews sounded like and try and get the best thing possible. Something that I added to my final was audio of the girls playing during practice so you can really get a feel what it is like to be in the gym. My design process began with finding someone who would let me interview them and answer the question about me like with what I do and their perspective of the things I do. After I did that I decided to do some sort of introduction kind of to introduce myself and what I do and kind of describe in my own words the things I do in a quick and short type of version. Then after I did that I recorded a transition to that by explaining that I was going to be including someone on the teams experience and idea of what I actually do. I collected these elements by using voice memos on my phone to record because I found that that’s what gave the most clear and nice sounding audio. The process of using Adobe software was trying to cut out long pauses but including some of those to make it sound natural and not so cut so I used the different tools to make it seem like a seamless interview. I didn’t use any outside materials I just used audio that I had recorded because I felt that I didn’t need any extra outside music or something like that. My inspiration was to really show the type of stuff that I am involved in on a daily basis and give real insight to that which I used by adding in by using the audio of the girls playing so you almost feel as if you are in the gym with them. All of the feedback I had gotten said that I should include something else to the audio story so it wasn’t just talking the entire time which I did with the audio of the girls playing.

The research I did was watching a lot of interviews on ESPN to see some audio to really see what interviews sounded like and try and get the best thing possible. Something that I would like to add for the final is possibly including some of the background noise of playing volleyball to be able to really hear and get a feel that you are actually there. My design process began with finding someone who would let me interview them and answer the question about me like with what I do and their perspective of the things I do. After I did that I decided to do some sort of introduction kind of to introduce myself and what I do and kind of describe in my own words the things I do in a quick and short type of version. Final Logo

For this project I decided to create a volleyball because since I am the Equipment Manager for the volleyball team, I thought it would be very fitting that I used a volleyball for my logo since that is what I’m dealing with on a daily basis and that is what my project is centralized around.

The “research” I did was just look at the thing I look at every day and then I figured it was a good thing to use since it’s the main piece of equipment that I deal with and the title of my project is a Day in my Life. My design process was very difficult because it just did not look how I expected it to at first, I used the pen tool to draw the lines of the ball and the ellipse tool to make my circle, but to fill in the volleyball I ended up using the paint tool.

After making the draft I read the comments and based off what I thought I could make better I went over all the lines again but with a thicker stroke so that the lines really stood out. I also decided to put another ellipse over the top. I also did this with a thicker stroke around the entire ball to make sure everything looked cohesive.

I think my logo really represents what I am trying to articulate for my project because it is clearly shows what the main point of my project is. Overall this process was very enlightening, I do not enjoy working in Illustrator as much as I do in Photoshop because I think there are more possibilities and for some reason it was easier to become more familiar with Photoshop.
